Cataract

Cataract is a clouding of the eye’s natural lens that causes blurred vision. Another symptom of cataracts is poor vision in bright light. If left untreated, vision gradually worsens, becoming hazy and unclear, and colors appear dull (with a yellow or brown tint). Reading or driving in low-light conditions becomes difficult due to deteriorating night vision, and halos may sometimes be seen around lights. In some cases, patients experience eye pain when exposed to bright sunlight or strong glare from reflective surfaces, such as car windshields. This condition most commonly affects people aged 60–70, although there are cases when it develops at a much younger age.

In the early stages, cataracts cannot be detected without an ophthalmological examination. At this stage, there are generally no visible symptoms of the disease. As the condition progresses, vision deteriorates: patients begin to see objects unclearly, as if through fog, sensitivity to bright light increases, night vision worsens, and color perception weakens.

Although cataracts most often develop due to age-related changes in the eyes, the condition is increasingly diagnosed in patients aged 40–50 or even younger. In patients over the age of 80, the detection rate of cataracts is almost 100%.

For most people with senile (age-related) cataracts, the disease develops very slowly and painlessly over many years, and the initial diagnosis is often made during a routine ophthalmologist’s examination.

However, the good news is that cataracts can be successfully treated. At our “Naujas regėjimas” clinic, we use the revolutionary “iQ-5 minutes” method – cataract removal using “water”.

Cataract surgery is performed without general anesthesia and without pain (using local anesthesia with special anesthetic eye drops). During the procedure, the lens affected by cataracts is removed and replaced with an artificial intraocular lens (IOL). Immediately after the surgery, your vision returns and you can see clearly.
