Almost contactless and painless comprehensive vision diagnostics that meets the highest EU requirements

Comprehensive eye examination includes not only the measurement of many eye characteristics with computer devices, but also special tests, which assess:

  • signs of infection or disease: are there any signs of infection or disease in the front of the eye and at the base of the eye;
  • vision at various distances: determining visual acuity and peripheral vision (ability to see the image on the sides);
  • eyesight problems: in case of any vision problem, which combination of lenses would ensure the brightest vision;
  • other characteristics of your eyes:
    • muscles that control eye movement;
    • ability to distinguish colours;
    • pupillary response to light;
    • corneal curvature;
    • intraocular pressure (to determine the risk of glaucoma).

To assess the fundus, the doctor will instill eye drops to dilate the pupils. This may result in low light sensitivity and an inability to focus on a close-up image; this may take several hours after the eye examination. If your eyes are extremely sensitive to light, dark glasses may be needed after the test until your sensitivity to light disappears. It is recommended to arrange for another person to take you home after the examination.

Periodic eye examination is not a recommendation, but a necessity!

Regular eye examinations are essential to maintain your eye health and good eyesight. Thanks to them, the first symptoms of eye diseases can be detected at an early stage and related diseases can be prevented. Eye tests provide more information about your health than you expect. In some cases, your ophthalmologist may draw conclusions about your general health, identify early symptoms of health problems that may eventually affect your vision. For this reason, regular eye examinations are very important, even if you do not have vision problems.

Many visual disturbances and diseases may not have obvious signs or symptoms, so it is very important to detect the pathology early. The truth is that 80 percent of vision loss can be averted (prevented or cured). Some visual disturbances are due to certain chronic diseases such as diabetes, high blood pressure, thyroid pathology, high cholesterol, and other symptoms.

A comprehensive eye examination consists of a review of a person’s medical history, various vision tests, and an assessment of eye health. You should schedule a consultation with an eye doctor not only if you experience visual changes, but also it is very important to have your eyes checked on a regular basis. Ophthalmologists of our eye clinic “New Vision” recommend to have a thorough eye examination every 1-3 years, depending on age, the presence of risk factors and general diseases.

The following tests are performed during the eye examination:

  • VISOMETRY

    Determining visual acuity using tables with letters, numbers, or other symbols.
  • TONOMETRY

    Measurement of intraocular pressure. Increased intraocular pressure is a major symptom of glaucoma.
  • REFRACTOMETRY

    Determination of optical power of the eye with an autorefractometer (diagnosis of refractive errors: myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism). Some call this study computer goggles.
  • BIOMETRY

    Measurement of anterior chamber depth, lens thickness, vitreous body, and total eye size. Biometrics are performed in just a few seconds in a contactless manner on the latest generation optical device. During the procedure, it is possible to estimate exactly what artificial lens is needed.
  • PACHIMETRY

    Measurement of corneal thickness using ultrasound or light examination. It must be performed both during and after the refraction operation.
  • KERATOTOPOGRAPHY

    Investigation of corneal curvature by recording reflected test objects. This test enables to determine the shape of the cornea and the presence of problems associated with it.
  • BIOMICROSCOPY OF ENDOTEL

    Determining the number and shape of cells on the inner surface of the cornea allows to determine the optimal way to protect it during a lens replacement operation.
  • PERIMETRY

    Determining the limit of the field of vision. The field of vision is the part of the surrounding space that the eye can see completely without moving the head and the gaze. It is an important method for diagnosing eye diseases such as glaucoma, partial optic nerve atrophy, retinal detachment, etc.
  • BIOMICROSCOPY

    A very accurate method of examining the anterior segment of the eye with a slit lamp (special microscope). During biomicroscopy, the ophthalmologist can see such large tissues of the eye as the conjunctiva, cornea, iris, lens, vitreous.
  • EYE BOTTOM EXAMINATION

    Examination of the fundus (retina of the eye and its blood vessels) using a new generation fundus camera. It is one of the most common and important diagnostic methods for eye diseases. The test is completely painless as it is performed by a qualified eye doctor and involves reliable local anesthesia.
  • OPTICAL COHERENT TOMOGRAPHY

    A safe and non-invasive laser examination method to determine the internal structure of the eye. The study is non-invasive, i.e., the eye is intact. It evaluates and accurately measures the optic disc, ocular choroids, retinal layers, and their thickness. This is especially important in diagnosing and monitoring glaucoma, retinal diseases. The anterior segment of the eye, i.e., the cornea and iris, can also be examined by this method. Without these studies, it is impossible to imagine a modern ophthalmological center.

  • LENSMETRY

    Optical examination of human spectacles.

Eye examination results

After completing the eye examination, your eye doctor will provide a detailed assessment of your eye health and vision, information on the risks you may face, and advice on how to maintain your vision. You may be prescribed glasses or contact lenses. If the results of the eye test do not match the norms, your doctor will discuss eye treatment or the need for further tests with you.
