During a comprehensive eye examination of children:
- we use contactless and non-traumatic technology to determine the refraction (optical force) in child’s eyes, during which the examined child watches a funny clown on the screen
- we determine visual acuity using the European-recognized informative tests – Lea and Cardiff
- we assess not only far-sighted, but also close-up vision, as this is very important for a child's successful performance at school
- we apply contactless retinal examination technology for children’s eyes, ensuring a cosy environment and high accuracy
- we determine whether both child's eyes work harmoniously and whether correct binocular and stereoscopic vision is developing
- we help to detect hidden blindness / latent strabismus, which causes visual disturbances and is not always detected timely
- we accurately diagnose strabismus and prescribe the effective treatment in a timely manner. Our physicians and nurses-optometrists treat strabismus with a synoptophore and vision function trainings, using appropriate computer software
- we evaluate the growth dynamics of a child’s eyeball
- using topographic data, we accurately determine astigmatism
- we determine ocular refraction under fractional cycloplegia conditions
- we perform a comprehensive examination of the fundus of the eye under cycloplegia
- we evaluate the need to correct vision with glasses or contact lenses
- we provide comprehensive consultation with a pediatric ophthalmologist

Preventive medical examinations in kindergartens and schools are designed to detect distinct disorders, clearly visible pathology, advanced diseases. As a result, the initial stages of serious conditions such as amblyopia, cataracts, astigmatism, retinoblastoma, and other conditions cannot be identified during such preventive medical check-ups. Based on current worldwide practice, we recommend an annual comprehensive examination of your child’s visual system to ensure that all eye diseases are detected early and cured by applying modern methods in a timely manner.
Young patients do not complain of eye problems, thus parents should be especially attentive if:
- the child rubs his/her eyes often,
- narrows a lid of one eye being outside,
- does not follow moving objects,
- the child’s eyes get red often,
- the child’s eyes diverge to any side (even if this occurs only occasionally),
- the child bends or turns his/her head when looking straight ahead,
- the child’s eyes twitch (even if this occurs only occasionally),
- the child has been diagnosed with diabetes,
- the appearance of right eye differs from the left according to certain parameters (i.e., size, appearance, pupil diameter),
- in photos taken with the flash, one of the child’s pupils glows pink and the other glows white,
- the child has experienced any eye trauma.

Of course it is possible. The eye clinic “New Vision” uses the generally accepted, reliable tests Lea and Cardiff, which allow to assess the vision of a child of any age, regardless of whether the young patient has started speaking.
Pupil dilating drops are necessary to properly assess the optical properties of the eye and to have a complete examination of the fundus (retina and optic nerve). The eye clinic “New Vision” uses special drops that almost do not irritate the eyes and do not cause allergic and side reactions. After such an examination, the child can go to school the very next day.
Generally, yes. Such complaints are usually caused by “hidden” farsightedness, myopia or astigmatism. In this case, the child should be examined by a pediatric ophthalmologist.
No, this is not possible. Untreated strabismus can, in the long run, seriously and irreversibly damage a child’s entire visual system. Such impaired vision limits a young person’s personal and professional life. If the child’s optical power is impaired (myopia, farsightedness, astigmatism), then glasses are the main “medicine” and allow the young patient to grow and develop correctly. With farsightedness, the glasses weaken as the child grows and can be abandoned in the long run. Myopia and astigmatism of any degree can be cured permanently by laser correction when the child is 18 years old.
