Children’s Clinic — paediatric ophthalmology in Vilnius

Children’s Clinic — paediatric ophthalmology in Vilnius

At the Children’s Clinic we provide eye and vision checks for children from 3 years old to adolescence: precise assessments, an individual care plan and clear guidance for parents. If you are looking for a calm, stress‑free place to have your child’s eyes checked, book an ophthalmologist consultation. Our administrators will advise on current prices, active offers and possible discounts, and will help you choose a convenient appointment time at a private children’s ophthalmology clinic in Vilnius.

When to book: early warning signs

When to book: early warning signs

The Children’s Clinic recommends not postponing an examination if you notice even minor changes in your child’s behaviour or habits. Complaints of eye fatigue, “foggy” vision, double vision, evening headaches, squinting, or holding gadgets very close may indicate the onset of myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism or binocular vision disorders. In preschoolers, warning signs include frequent eye rubbing, excessive blinking and avoiding puzzles or fine‑motor games; in school‑age children — reduced concentration, difficulty reading the board, poor posture and bringing notebooks close to the face.

Pay attention if the eyes appear to “drift”, intermittent strabismus is seen in photos, or a “red eye” looks asymmetrical — this is a reason to schedule a consultation at the Children’s Clinic. Other indications include early and prolonged screen use, hereditary myopia, prematurity, allergies, and complaints of dryness or burning after classes. Our routine vision check for children includes age‑appropriate tests, and, when needed, diagnostics with fractional cycloplegia, corneal topography and axial length monitoring to adjust risks in time, slow undesirable progression and reduce the likelihood of amblyopia.

Comprehensive assessment: accurate diagnosis and a treatment plan

Comprehensive assessment: accurate diagnosis and a treatment plan

At the Children’s Clinic we evaluate refraction (including under fractional cycloplegia), stereo vision, fusion reserves, ocular alignment, the condition of the fundus and the rate of eyeball growth. Based on the results, the doctor prepares a personalised plan: optical correction, device‑based vision therapy for children, a follow‑up schedule and home exercises. Parents receive a clear written summary, transparent pricing, recommendations and information on the cost of each step. We also discuss expected dynamics (when the first changes may appear), explain the benefits and limitations of each method in plain language, and provide a home vision‑hygiene checklist.

All procedures are carried out in a friendly, child‑oriented format, and follow‑up examinations are planned individually (taking into account school, extracurricular activities and visual workload) to support stable improvement in functional vision indicators.

Why choose a pediatric clinic?

Why choose a pediatric clinic?

In addition, you can expect a comfortable environment and modern equipment. Doctors use play-based methods and provide detailed reports for school and/or kindergarten.

Paediatric diagnostics stages at the clinic

    01Initial screening and consultation

You can book a vision assessment in just a few minutes — by phone or online.

At the Children’s Clinic we collect complaints and medical history, perform a child‑friendly visual acuity screening, a basic assessment of binocular functions and eye alignment, and examine the anterior segment. We provide vision‑hygiene recommendations and determine whether extended testing is needed (cycloplegia, topography, biometry). We immediately advise on the approximate cost of the next stage.

    02Extended measurements with cycloplegia

We perform refractometry / retinoscopy under fractional cycloplegia, keratotopography / tomography to accurately determine astigmatism, ophthalmoscopy with pharmacological pupil dilation, measure axial length, and assess stereo vision and fusion reserves. We explain the results in plain language and record them in the protocol.

    03Personalised treatment and follow‑up plan

The clinic team discusses the results with parents, selects correction (glasses / contact lenses), prescribes device‑based therapy when indicated, provides home exercises and a schedule of follow‑up visits. We provide a written report, a course cost calculation and links to reviews.

List of diagnostic examinations

During an eye check‑up, we carry out a set of tests aimed at a comprehensive assessment of the visual system:

Visiometry (visual acuity test)

We assess how well the child sees at distance and near. For toddlers we use pictures instead of letters; for schoolchildren — standard charts. The test is performed in a child‑friendly format to reduce anxiety.

Tonometry (Intraocular Pressure)

We use non‑contact air‑puff tonometry — a quick “air pulse” that helps rule out glaucoma and other conditions. Children usually tolerate it calmly; it takes just a few seconds.

Refractometry

Using an autorefractor we determine the eye’s refractive power: myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism. When needed, we add retinoscopy and fractional cycloplegia (drops temporarily “switch off” accommodation) to obtain accurate data for a glasses / lenses prescription.

Biometry (axial length and ocular parameters)

We non‑contactly measure eye length, anterior chamber depth and lens thickness. This is important for monitoring myopia progression in children and for correct long‑term planning.

Pachymetry (Corneal Thickness)

A light‑based or ultrasound device quickly and painlessly measures corneal thickness. These data are used to interpret intraocular pressure, plan refractive interventions and monitor after trauma / inflammation.

Keratotopography (Corneal Map)

We determine the shape and curvature of the cornea. In children it helps detect astigmatism, early signs of keratoconus in teenagers, and supports accurate optical correction selection. The procedure is non‑contact.

Perimetry (visual field)

We assess how much of the surrounding space the child can perceive while fixating. Useful when optic nerve damage or neuro‑ophthalmic conditions are suspected and for risk monitoring. We explain the task simply to make it easy for the child.

Biomicroscopy (Slit-Lamp Exam)

This is an “eye microscope” that allows the doctor to examine the eyelids, cornea, iris and lens in detail. The child sits comfortably; the specialist explains each step — there is no pain.

Fundus examination through a lens

After instilling pupil‑dilating drops, the doctor evaluates the retina, macula and optic disc. The method helps identify congenital features, myopia‑related changes, vascular and inflammatory conditions. If sensitivity is present, we use local anaesthetic drops.

Lensometry (glasses check)

We measure the optical power of existing glasses: sphere, cylinder, axis and pupillary distance. This helps determine whether the glasses are suitable and whether the prescription should be updated.

Mindaugas Alekna

Cataract treatment

Mindaugas Alekna

Cataract treatment feels calm here because everything is explained in advance and guided step by step. The cataract surgery was quick, and within a few days after the IOL implantation there was noticeable clarity. I liked that the clinic doesn’t disappear after the procedure: follow-ups, answers to questions, and lifestyle recommendations for the first weeks. Everything was professional and respectful.

Ieva Kazlauskaitė

Cataract treatment

Ieva Kazlauskaitė

The cataract developed gradually, so at first the changes felt like simple “eye fatigue.” At the appointment they immediately outlined a plan: cataract treatment by phacoemulsification and IOL implantation. I appreciated that they explained in advance what sensations to expect and what restrictions apply during the first days. After the cataract was removed, glare from headlights and lamps decreased, and it became easier to navigate at dusk. Follow-up visits were on schedule, and progress was shown using exam results.

After visiting the medical center New Vision, I was very satisfied with the doctors’ work. The doctors and staff are friendly, polite, and clearly know their job.

Jurgita Märkene

Laser vision correction

Jurgita Märkene

Laser correction was a great decision to make life easier. I have had poor eyesight since childhood. Now all that remains is to enjoy it every day. Another big advantage is that when my eyes get tired, I no longer have headaches. I can’t say exactly why I chose your clinic — probably my inner voice told me that you were the ones who should perform the surgery. I was very satisfied. This is a professional clinic, and I recommend everyone to undergo surgery here.
