Frequently asked questions about pediatric ophthalmology:

Children ophthalmologists at the eye clinic “New Vision” can assess vision condition of even the youngest patients. Ophthalmologists around the world agree that children should be fully examined at the age of 2 to 3 years.

Preventive medical examinations in kindergartens and schools are designed to detect distinct disorders, clearly visible pathology, advanced diseases. As a result, the initial stages of serious conditions such as amblyopia, cataracts, astigmatism, retinoblastoma, and other conditions cannot be identified during such preventive medical check-ups. Based on current worldwide practice, we recommend an annual comprehensive examination of your child’s visual system to ensure that all eye diseases are detected early and cured by applying modern methods in a timely manner.

Young patients do not complain of eye problems, thus parents should be especially attentive if:

  • the child rubs his/her eyes often,
  • narrows a lid of one eye being outside,
  • does not follow moving objects,
  • the child’s eyes get red often,
  • the child’s eyes diverge to any side (even if this occurs only occasionally),
  • the child bends or turns his/her head when looking straight ahead,
  • the child’s eyes twitch (even if this occurs only occasionally),
  • the child has been diagnosed with diabetes,
  • the appearance of right eye differs from the left according to certain parameters (i.e., size, appearance, pupil diameter),
  • in photos taken with the flash, one of the child’s pupils glows pink and the other glows white,
  • the child has experienced any eye trauma.

If you notice at least one symptom, contact our pediatric ophthalmologist.

Of course it is possible. The eye clinic “New Vision” uses the generally accepted, reliable tests Lea and Cardiff, which allow to assess the vision of a child of any age, regardless of whether the young patient has started speaking.

Pupil dilating drops are necessary to properly assess the optical properties of the eye and to have a complete examination of the fundus (retina and optic nerve). The eye clinic “New Vision” uses special drops that almost do not irritate the eyes and do not cause allergic and side reactions. After such an examination, the child can go to school the very next day.

Generally, yes. Such complaints are usually caused by “hidden” farsightedness, myopia or astigmatism. In this case, the child should be examined by a pediatric ophthalmologist.

No, this is not possible. Untreated strabismus can, in the long run, seriously and irreversibly damage a child’s entire visual system. Such impaired vision limits a young person’s personal and professional life. The team of professionals at our eye clinic “New Vision” can diagnose early strabismus and cure this disorder even in the youngest patients.

If the child’s optical power is impaired (myopia, farsightedness, astigmatism), then glasses are the main “medicine” and allow the young patient to grow and develop correctly. With farsightedness, the glasses weaken as the child grows and can be abandoned in the long run. Myopia and astigmatism of any degree can be cured permanently by laser correction when the child is 18 years old. The specialists of our eye clinic “New Vision” are unrivalled leaders in laser vision correction.

Can. The eye clinic “New Vision” uses modern, highly effective devices for the treatment of amblyopia, strabismus, myopia, farsightedness, and astigmatism. Depending on the results of the diagnosis, your pediatric ophthalmologist will prescribe an individual treatment and prevention program for your child.

Eye Examination: A Crucial Part of Annual Health Checkups

Eye examinations should become a regular part of your annual health checkup. Vision is one of the key functions of our body, enabling us to see everything happening around, understand, distinguish, and analyze. One of the first procedures for newborns is a vision test. A general examination of the size and shape of the eyeballs, eyelid condition, pupil reaction to light, eye movement coordination, and a fundus examination can help identify congenital pathologies that may develop unnoticed and allow early treatment of potential problems.

Children’s Ophthalmology: The Importance of Early Vision Testing

Vision testing for children from birth is crucial for several reasons. One of the main reasons is the early detection of issues. The earlier a diagnosis is made, the more effective the treatment will be. Timely detection prevents missed opportunities for full recovery before the disease worsens or leads to blindness. It is also essential for preventing amblyopia and preserving binocular vision – the ability of both eyes to work together without losing visual sharpness and depth perception. Regular vision testing in early childhood ensures a child can enjoy a vivid view of the world in the future.

We recommend visiting a pediatric ophthalmologist at least once a year. Systematic vision testing helps identify issues early and take the necessary steps to ensure comfort. For example, early detection of astigmatism in a child allows for the selection of suitable optical aids to ensure clear vision.

Children’s Eye Clinic “New Vision” – Together, We’ll Fill Your Child’s World with Color

Modern methods of vision testing offered by our children’s eye clinic make examinations for children aged three and above simple and stress-free. Good vision in childhood significantly influences social processes, such as interacting with peers, learning, developing hobbies, and successful engagement with the world around them. Our specialists are skilled at finding an approach to every young patient and ensuring a comfortable experience within our clinic. We use non-contact and non-traumatic technology to assess children’s visual acuity.

Children’s ophthalmology, as a separate field of medicine studying the morpho-functional abilities of children’s visual organs and treatment methods, carries the primary mission of helping as many young patients as possible see the world in full detail. “New Vision” clinic offers personalized consultations with pediatric ophthalmologists, detailed eye examinations with diagnosis and treatment recommendations, precise refractive diagnostics under fractional cycloplegia, accurate astigmatism diagnosis through topographic data, detailed fundus examination under cycloplegia, and answers to all your questions regarding vision preservation.
