As conventional laser vision correction has become a thing of the past, we asked the well-known ophthalmologist Oleg Kovriguin to explain.

In our Vilnius clinic, for the first time in Europe, laser vision correction operations were performed using a digital robotic 3D visualization system.

Ophthalmology has made a huge step into the future. For the first time in the world, for the treatment of advanced vision pathologies, myopia, and astigmatism, a 3D visualization system began to be used.

The entire laser vision correction process consists of several stages. Using an ultra-precise cold laser, tissue parts on the cornea are separated and vaporized. This process is controlled by artificial intelligence integrated into the latest laser. Everything is calculated by a special medical computer according to installed nomograms.

Next, high-tech devices perform their functions.

The microscope, which ophthalmologists usually use in other laser vision correction centers, was simply removed from our laser by German specialists. It is no longer present.

Instead of a microscope, special 3D observation and tracking video systems are built in, so the ophthalmic surgeon can conveniently monitor the laser vision correction process on a large 3D screen while wearing special glasses. Moreover, the entire team of specialists participating in the operation – engineer, assistants, anesthesiologist – can also see the laser vision correction process with special glasses, which lasts only a few seconds.

Thus, the doctor is given freedom of action, and two huge advantages appear for both the surgeon and the patient. The doctor no longer needs to work with a microscope, which requires increased lighting; his body position during work is more comfortable, so he does not get tired. It is no secret that ophthalmologists constantly look at bright light, which harms their health, and uncomfortable microscope work causes spinal problems. After all, it is necessary not to miss anything, to notice every detail, because the patient entrusts us with their vision. This new technology is also especially important for patients, since young people come to us wanting perfect vision.

The human eye, its retina is programmed for a certain cycle of light and dark changes; it is not for nothing that a person sleeps at night, when their eyes rest. In general, specialists recommend avoiding looking at bright light sources, even very briefly.

Finally, we have a technology that allows patients to perform even safer and higher-quality laser vision correction.
