When laser eye correction cannot be performed

01.04.2015

Laser vision correction

Nowadays, there is a modern method for restoring deteriorated vision – laser vision correction. However, before performing this procedure, it is necessary to inform the eye doctor about existing visual impairments, eye diseases, and even general health problems. This is because, in the presence of certain health disorders, the laser eye correction procedure is not performed.

Such a method as laser vision correction appeared relatively recently, but despite its application limitations, it is truly effective. Only a small number of patients require repeated treatment after this procedure, while most patients are satisfied with the result of laser vision correction for many years of their lives.

Despite many positive reviews about this treatment method, there are still contraindications that make it impossible to perform laser vision correction.

Absolute contraindications when laser correction cannot be performed:

• various autoimmune diseases (when the immune system fights against itself);
• primary and secondary immunodeficiency conditions;
• diseases that affect healing processes;
• the cornea is too thin, less than 450 (440) micrometers;
• the patient has glaucoma;
• the cornea gradually becomes thinner;
• progressive myopia is present;
cataract is diagnosed;
• there was a previous surgery due to retinal detachment.

Before deciding on such a procedure, it is necessary to consult an eye doctor. Because it is the doctor who makes the decision to perform laser vision correction.
