The best laser eye correction method

Laser vision correction

Advice by Andrius Radko – one of the best eye surgeons in Europe, with more than 50,000 laser vision correction procedures performed and excellent results.

Please tell us about the laser eye correction methods and which one is the best?

The “oldest” laser vision correction method is PRK. It is the pioneer of all laser correction methods, which used to provide good results in cases of mild myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism. In this method, the epithelium is removed from the cornea, and an excimer laser forms a lens on its surface, which corrects the eye's optical problems. After this procedure, the patient starts seeing normally. A small open wound forms on the surface of the eye, which heals within two to three days. During this time, the patient experiences eye pain, visual discomfort, and tearing. Recently, this method is practically not used in modern ophthalmology clinics.

A new laser vision correction method is LASIK. It is a modern method widely used in various eye clinics. LASIK provides good results in cases of myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism.

Another method is Femto LASIK, advertised as “bladeless” eye surgery. However, no “blades” are ever used in any laser vision correction procedure, and this claim is merely an advertising trick. This method uses two lasers: a femtosecond laser and an excimer laser. The correction time increases from 2–3 minutes to 30 minutes, which is already a negative factor. Additional materials are required for the femtosecond laser, which are essentially unnecessary for the patient but necessary for the laser's operation. Thus, the cost of the surgery doubles. Unfortunately, a number of complications arise, which companies that invested in expensive equipment tend to keep quiet about. Visual acuity after such operations rarely exceeds the nominal value.

ThinFlap LASIK – this method indicates that during correction, an excimer laser and a microkeratome are used, allowing the creation of a minimal-thickness corneal flap before the correction. This ensures good visual acuity, and the method is quite common in eye clinics. By the way, it differs from regular LASIK only by a special disposable microkeratome head.

Super LASIK – this method indicates that personalized data of each patient are used during correction, making the procedure much more individualized. This allows achieving higher visual acuity in correcting myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism.

And finally, the personalized iQ-LASIK method, which we use in our eye clinics. At present, we have taken one more step forward – we offer the improved iQ-LASIK Oxygen laser correction method. It is a new level of reliability, safety, and efficiency. During this procedure, additional photochemical eye protection is used. The quality of the operation increases even more, and visual recovery after the procedure is much faster. We guarantee a 100% excellent result after laser vision correction performed using the iQ-LASIK Oxygen method. Our patients from European countries who come to our clinic for laser vision correction always receive exactly the result they expect. On our website https://eyes.lt you can find patient testimonials about this procedure. To ensure that our website visitors, who may become our future patients, have no doubts that all reviews are real, we also publish photos of their authors – real patients.

How to choose the right clinic and doctor for a laser vision correction procedure?

The equipment in the clinic must be new. Every 3–4 years our eye clinics completely renew all laser correction equipment. Naturally, our equipment is sold on the secondary market. Other clinics purchase it. And, of course, an ophthalmic surgeon must have performed at least 10,000 laser vision correction procedures as a surgical assistant before taking the place at the excimer laser during surgery.

Speaking about the ophthalmic surgeons working in our clinic, each of them has tens of thousands of such operations performed. For laser vision correction procedures, our clinic uses the latest-generation excimer laser ALLEGRETTO WaveLight Wave Eye-Q (Alcon, USA). It ensures excellent results in standard vision correction, as well as in correcting severe and irregular astigmatism. Our guarantee of high-quality work ensures optimal medical care for our patients.

When laser eye correction cannot be performed

Nowadays, there is a modern method for restoring deteriorated vision – laser vision correction. However, before performing this procedure, it is necessary to inform the eye doctor about existing visual impairments, eye diseases, and even general health problems. This is because, in the presence of certain health disorders, the laser eye correction procedure is not performed.
