Let’s Not Forget Eye Exercises

Eye exam

Of all the sensory organs, the eyes bear the most strain. Therefore, they need to be treated with particular care. Ophthalmology specialists at medical centers recommend following certain vision prophylaxis measures to protect the eyes from various visual impairments and chronic diseases.

  • When reading a book for a long time, it is important to ensure that the gaze is not directed only downward, because in this position the sleep arteries are compressed. As a result, oxygen may not reach the visual organs. Therefore, while reading, it is necessary to periodically change the direction of vision: the angle and the distance to the book. This helps vary the tension in the eye muscles, as vision depends on their functionality.
  • Ophthalmologists assert: one should not read lying down before sleep. Reading activates processes in the eyes, while falling asleep slows down many processes in the body, including those related to vision.
  • It is necessary to increase the eyes’ resistance to negative light effects (car headlights, screen flicker, sunlight flashes, etc.). To perform the appropriate exercise, close your eyes and make eye movements that allow alternating between light and darkness.
  • Other useful exercises for the eyes and surrounding muscles should also be performed. The first exercise helps saturate the eyes with oxygen and nutrients, as it increases blood circulation in the eye area. Perform a few simple movements – inhale deeply and exhale through pursed lips, slightly leaning forward. The second exercise improves blood circulation and relaxes the eye muscles. For this, bring your fingers together halfway and raise them to the middle of the forehead in front of the eyes. Stay in this position for 10 seconds and repeat the exercise several times.
  • It is important to ensure that the body receives all necessary nutrients from food. If necessary, these nutrients can also be supplemented with special dietary supplements. Ophthalmology specialists know the main nutrients beneficial for vision, including plant-based products: nettle decoction, blueberry leaf infusion and decoction, as well as other berries and nuts containing vitamin E.
  • It is also necessary to protect the eyes from mechanical factors: dust, dirt, wind, high or low temperatures. The eyes should be cleaned periodically. For example, by opening your eyes, you can immerse your face in a container with clean water.

Thus, it can be concluded that performing certain exercises can improve vision. However, one should not forget that regular eye check-ups at specialized ophthalmology centers are also essential.
