Age-related Vision Features

Laser vision correction
As we age, our entire body weakens, and our vision is no exception. Each year, we notice that our eyesight deteriorates more and more. Sometimes declining vision can be restored with simple treatments, while other times treatment is minimal, and glasses must be worn temporarily or permanently. Regardless of whether we have protected our eyes throughout life or not, age-related vision changes occur in 98% of people.
Why does vision worsen with age? Our body can no longer regenerate itself, as the ability to repair declines with age. Meanwhile, instead of protecting our eyes, we prevent them from sleeping or resting in other ways. Then we rush to the doctor, but restoring good vision is often too late. The doctor can only slow down the eye disease but cannot completely cure it.
The most common age-related vision feature is primary glaucoma. Its occurrence is directly related to the aging process of the body. In very rare cases, this disease appears as early as 40 years old. After this age, one in three people may develop glaucoma.
The way people harm their health inevitably affects the eyes as well. The causes of vision weakening can be varied:
• Overstrain
• Spinal problems
• Smoking
• Improper nutrition
• Sun exposure
• Genetic factors
• Venereal and infectious diseases
The decline in sharp vision with age can be triggered by various eye diseases:
• Myopia (nearsightedness). In this disease, the image is focused in front of the retina. Myopia can be axial or refractive. Often, both types occur simultaneously.
• Hyperopia (farsightedness). In contrast, the image is focused behind the retina.
• Astigmatism. In this case, everything a person sees appears blurry and lacks sharpness.
• Presbyopia (age-related farsightedness). Due to age-related changes in the lens, the eye’s ability to focus on close objects decreases. Vision correction is required in such cases.
As we can see, age-related vision features can be associated with various diseases. However, some of them can be prevented. The most important thing is to protect your vision, so with age, you may not need either doctors or glasses.
